What We Collect and Receive
In order for us to provide you the best possible experience in the Portainer.io application, we need to collect and process certain information.
Usage data — when you launch Portainer for the first time, you are presented with the "init" screen, which asks you to set an admin username/password. On this same screen you will see a tick box authorizing Portainer to collect and transmit anonymous usage information. If you untick the box, analytics is completely disabled, unless re-enabled in the "settings" menu of Portainer.
When enabled, every time you use the Portainer.io application, we will store: the parts of the application you use, the date and duration of your visit, your anonymized IP address, information from the device (device type, operating system, screen resolution, language, country you are located in, and web browser type) you used during your visit. We process this usage data in Matomo Analytics for statistical purposes to improve our app, and to focus our development efforts on those functions most used. This information is retained for 6 months, and is held in the Matomo Cloud Service, which is hosted in Germany.
For the sake of clarity, we do not collect ANY user identifiable or personal information at any time, all statistics collected are anonymous and we have no way of identifying the Portainer instances reporting, nor the users using the application.
Below is the opt-out screen at the initial configuration page:
Opt-out of analytics:
You can opt out of being tracked by our Matomo Analytics instance by simply removing the analytics acceptance at Portainer initialization, or by changing the setting in Portainer at any time.
You have the right to be informed on the detail of the analytics data collected by Portainer.io, however we have no ability to provide information on analytics stored for your particular Portainer instance as all data collected is anonymized at source.
If you have questions or comments relating to the use of analytics data you may contact Portainer.io support team:email@example.com. In addition, you have the right to lodge a complaint with the data protection authority in your jurisdiction.
