Power the Edge Revolution
Remote management at scale
Whether you’re managing five devices or five thousand, Portainer gives you one control plane to deploy, manage, and update your entire fleet; no VPNs, site visits, or remote desktops needed. Software updates, troubleshooting, and lifecycle management happen from the centre, not the edge.
Run in any edge environment
Portainer is built for the realities of industrial and remote environments. It runs on everything from rugged edge gateways to Raspberry Pis, works in air-gapped sites, handles flaky connections, and meets strict security and networking requirements.
No DevOps expert required
Not every remote site has an IT expert on staff, and with Portainer, they don’t need one. Our intuitive interface brings device management and software deployment under control with clear, guided workflows that operations teams can use safely.
Policy-driven software delivery
With Portainer, you set the rules; what runs, where, and how. Policies are enforced automatically, even on offline devices, so you can roll out updates, enforce image signing, and stay compliant without constant connectivity. Governance is built in, not bolted on.
Why it works
Speed and simplicity
From zero to global rollout, Portainer makes the setup fast and the scaling simple.
Built for any environment
Portainer runs on rugged hardware, handles diverse and unreliable networks, and incorporates industrial-grade security.
Self-hosted
You own everything. Portainer runs on your own infrastructure, not in the cloud.
There's no vendor lock-in with Portainer, we provide transparent, sensible licensing (per-node, not per-user), and you can expand at any time.

Use Cases
Industrial IoT / Smart Manufacturing
Onboard PLCs, machines, sensors; ensure consistent firmware and app rollout; integrate MES.
MedTech
Consolidate sensor data, push updates across remote locations without cloud dependency.
Digital Services at the Edge
Edge compute for low-latency applications like digital signage, telecom, retail IoT, automotive systems, and smart building interfaces.
We speak your language
We have a specialist team with real-world, factory floor experience with IIoT, so they understand your unique needs and challenges. When you talk to us, you're talking to someone that knows your field - because it's their field, too. We won't try to push you towards a direction that doesn't make sense for you.
Not just capable, tried and tested
Established. Experienced. Evolving.
Since adding Edge Device support in 2021, Portainer has focused on delivering a first-class management experience for the constrained environments that run the world - factories, ships, oil rigs, mines, retail stores, and more. Even with 30,000ms of latency, it just works.
Proven at scale
IoT deployments demand scale and Portainer is built for it. Right now, customers are managing 125,000 devices from a single Portainer instance in full production. This isn’t a future goal, it’s happening today. And with plans to scale into the 500,000s, your project can easily be managed by Portainer.
Safe and secure
Portainer runs in some of the most secure environments on earth; government, defense, utilities, in the air, underwater, and underground. Built for air-gapped and private networks, it requires no SaaS, no "call-home", just a rock-solid platform that runs wherever you need it.

Frequently asked questions
Portainer is ideal for managing edge environments, where resources are often limited, and complexity must be minimized. It provides centralized management for edge deployments, ensuring that you can deploy, monitor, and update edge-based Kubernetes or Docker environments just as easily as you would in the cloud or on-premise. Portainer’s lightweight footprint and simplicity make it perfect for edge computing scenarios. Read our whitepaper, where we’ve distilled years of hands-on experience into practical insights "You don't modernize a factory overnight".
Portainer’s Agent is very lightweight and only uses about 10 MB of RAM. That’s why it runs also on Edge Devices with limited hardware resources.
The supported architectures and the compatible and required Docker or Kubernetes versions can be found in our documentation.
Kubernetes is only needed if you want to manage your Kubernetes cluster via Portainer.
We recommend you use Edge Devices on which Docker is already pre-installed. Our IoT partner Wago offers these devices and we have partnered together to deliver a joint solution to simplify and secure Industrial IoT device fleet management.
