Webinar: Your developers want self-service. You want control. You can have both.

28 Oct 2026Zoom webinar

Your developers want to get their applications onto Kubernetes without learning YAML or waiting on a ticket. A request form in your ITSM system isn’t self-service. Real self-service needs a way to write the deployment manifests, a repository to store them, namespaces, an ingress convention, somewhere for secrets, logs without a kubeconfig, permissions between teams, and a way back when a deploy goes wrong. Building all of that is a platform project in its own right.

In this webinar, we’ll walk through Portainer-IDP live. It’s an Internal Developer Portal for Kubernetes, currently in pre-release, and included with Portainer Business at no extra cost. We’ll install it, set it up, and deploy applications several ways, from a ready-made catalog app to a multi-tier application built from a form. Every change is committed to your Git repository under the developer’s own identity, and Portainer Business deploys it from there. Secrets are encrypted before they reach Git. After the deploy, developers check metrics and logs, scale, and roll back without a kubeconfig.

We’ll also show what stays with the platform team. You decide which infrastructure sits behind each deploy target, so you can add clusters or move applications without changing how developers work. Guardrails are set once and enforced on every request, and every change is recorded in the audit log, including the ones that were refused.

Key Takeaways

  • Self-service needs more than a form. Developers need a complete path to production, not a ticket queue with a nicer front end.
  • Git is the source of truth. Every deploy, scale and rollback is a commit, so your history is your backup and your audit trail.
  • Start simple, grow into it. Developers can begin with pre-built catalog apps and move up to multi-tier applications, seeing the generated manifest as they go.
  • Placement and policy stay with the platform team. Deploy targets, namespaces, roles and guardrails are yours, and developers never need cluster access.
  • No extra cost. Portainer-IDP is included with Portainer Business and works with the roles, teams and environments you already have.

This Webinar Is for You If

  • You’re a platform engineer or infrastructure lead fielding a steady stream of deployment and namespace requests from developers.
  • You’re an IT manager who needs developers deploying safely and securely on your own infrastructure.
  • You’re a developer who wants to ship applications to Kubernetes without managing the infrastructure underneath.
  • You’ve looked at IDPs like Backstage and found the setup cost too high for the problem you need solved.
  • You want GitOps across your teams without asking every developer to learn it first.

Speakers

Neil Cresswell Founder and CEO

Neil Cresswell is the co-founder and CEO of Portainer, a popular platform that simplifies container management for Docker, Kubernetes, and edge environments. A veteran of over 25 years in IT, he began his career with 12 years at IBM before leading VMware consulting at ViFX across Asia-Pacific and serving as CEO for cloud service providers. Frustrated by the lack of usable tooling for “containers as a service,” he created Portainer to make container technology accessible to everyone. Under his leadership, Portainer has grown from an open-source UI into an enterprise-ready platform used globally.

James Carppe Product Marketing Manager

A former web developer, operations manager, and radio announcer, James is a big fan of technology in all forms. When not making videos and helping Portainer customers out, you'll often find him watching films and television, pretending to be a photographer, and tinkering with the latest gadgets.
